Mohawk Laminate Adds Tough New Finish To Keep
Products Looking New--Even In Multifamily Applications
As property managers look
for ways to make their offerings stand out to residents, hard surface
flooring products like laminate are gaining popularity—especially with
the high-style, easy-install, easy-care options now available.
“It’s
much easier to work with laminate
today in multifamily,” notes Larry Brookshire, Senior Vice President of
Builder and Multifamily Markets.
“There’s tremendous value available.
Laminate also let you offer a surprise to residents—they don’t
expect to get the style and warmth that these products can offer.
“Instead of putting vinyl in a small area like a laundry room, you can
dress it up substantially with a moderately priced laminate.
When a tenant has the option of two homes, one with extra
value-added details like this, and one with basic amenities, which do
you think she’ll choose?” he asked.
Mohawk’s innovations in laminate offer specific benefits to the
multifamily market—especially in boosting the ability of laminates to
stay new-looking.
ScratchGuard™ Advanced Finish Protection helps prevent micro-scratches
in laminate caused by routine dirt and dust, which can dull a floor’s
surface finish over time.
ScratchGuard™ provides an extra layer of protection, preserving the
floors original gloss level and making it ideal for laminates used in
high traffic areas. Tests
show that ScratchGuard products have significantly more resistance to
microscratching.
ScratchGuard is being introduced into products 8mm and thicker in the
Mohawk laminate line.
Mohawk
has also overcome another objection to the use of laminate in
multifamily projects—simple installation.
Mohawk’s Uniclic glueless installation system for laminate offers makes
installation as simple as a single click.
Because it is a floating floor installation, the new laminate
floor can be installed over an existing worn hard surface floor, often
without removing the old flooring.
Many installation crews have the expertise to handle both carpet
and Uniclic hard surface installations at the same time.
And in fact, with some Uniclic laminates, it’s possible to
disassemble the floor and reinstall it in another location—up to three
times.
“Laminate only makes sense in multifamily installations if it is
affordable and durable, and provides a value-added advantage,”
Brookshire said. “With our
recent innovations in laminate technology, we’ve given property owners
serious reasons to consider laminate in multifamily,” Brookshire said.
